When setting up a animation a tap function to get timing right. Like: Lets do an animation fitting to a certain song you want to use for your alert. Now you have to look for the BPM and think about how fast you have to set the light slot and the light off slot.
With a Tap-Button it could make a color slot while it is tapped (Duration) and a off slot while it is not tapped. Later the user can set the slots up as he needs it with what color or lights aso. So it would be easy to set up 100s of slots with the right timing w/o copy and pasting.
